Xona Space Systems Raises $170 Million in Series C Funding

Xona Space Systems, a Burlingame, California-based company specializing in navigation infrastructure, has secured $170 million in a Series C funding round. This investment aims to propel the development of their low Earth orbit satellite constellation, which offers real-time, centimeter-level accuracy for devices worldwide.

The Series C round was led by Mohari Ventures Natural Capital, with participation from Craft Ventures, ICONIQ, Woven Capital, NGP Capital, Samsung Next, and Hexagon.

What Xona Space Systems Does

Xona Space Systems focuses on developing a commercial alternative to traditional GPS systems. Their satellite network, known as the Pulsar constellation, promises enhanced precision, navigation, and timing services. The network is designed to deliver stronger signals and offers protection against common issues like jamming and spoofing, while still remaining compatible with existing GPS devices.

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly acquired funding will be primarily used to scale manufacturing operations at the company’s Burlingame facility. It will also accelerate the deployment of the Pulsar satellite constellation. Xona aims to have early service availability by 2027, enabling applications across various sectors such as critical infrastructure, agriculture, construction, IoT, and autonomous systems.

Addressing GPS Vulnerabilities

Concerns over the vulnerabilities of traditional GPS systems, such as susceptibility to interference and slow modernization, have driven the demand for alternative solutions. Xona's commercial approach offers a more scalable and faster deployment of satellite technology compared to legacy systems.

Leadership and Vision

Xona Space Systems was co-founded by Brian Manning, who serves as CEO, along with Adrien Perkins (VP of Engineering), Bryan Chan (VP of Corporate Strategy), Kazuma Gunning (Director of Navigation and Software), and Tyler Reid (CTO). Manning commented on the need for modern navigation infrastructure, stating, "GPS has been foundational to modern life, but it was designed for a different era. The world needs navigation infrastructure that can actually deliver the precision and resilience these applications demand."

Expanding Global Reach

In addition to scaling operations in California, Xona is expanding its international presence with operations in Montreal and London. The company is also building partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region to support the global adoption of its navigation technology.

This significant funding round positions Xona Space Systems to advance its mission of delivering high-precision satellite navigation services, addressing the growing needs of modern applications and industries.
