WISE Secures €30 Million in Series D Funding

WISE, a company specializing in advanced implantable electrodes for neuromonitoring, neuromodulation, and brain-computer interface applications, has successfully raised €30 million in a Series D funding round. This latest round was led by ENEA Tech and Biomedical, a foundation dedicated to innovation in the biomedical sector, with participation from Wallaby, New Frontier, Eureka Venture SGR, and Indaco Ventures SGR.

Leadership and Vision

Luca Ravagnan, CEO and Co-founder of WISE, continues to guide the company in its mission to innovate in the field of neurotechnology. The funds will be pivotal in advancing WISE’s proprietary technologies and expanding their commercial reach.

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly acquired capital will primarily be used to further develop and promote WISE’s Heron lead, a spinal cord stimulation product aimed at treating chronic pain. The Heron lead is designed to offer targeted, directional stimulation with a minimally invasive technique, combining the therapeutic advantages of surgical paddle leads with the ease of cylindrical leads. This approach promises enhanced energy efficiency, improved anatomical coverage, and better neural signal sensing.

Additionally, the funding will support the Heron lead’s regulatory certification and initial human trials. The company also plans to expand the commercialization of its broader electrode portfolio, including the WISE Cortical Strip. This strip is a stretchable electrode used in neurophysiological monitoring during surgeries for brain tumors and epilepsy, and it is already available in Europe, the U.S., and Australia.

Technology and Product Expansion

WISE’s Supersonic Technology enables the creation of implantable electrodes and brain-computer interface systems with stretchable electronic circuits, enhancing tissue conformability and adhesion compared to traditional rigid electrodes. This technology underpins the company’s product offerings and is central to its ongoing research and development efforts.

Future Developments

The funding round also introduces governance changes, including new appointments intended to strengthen WISE's strategic direction as it scales its operations. With the support of its investors, WISE is well-positioned to advance its innovative solutions and meet the growing demand in the neurotechnology market.
