Supabase Raises $150 Million in Growth Funding
Supabase, a company enabling developers to build production-ready applications with features such as Postgres databases, authentication, real-time APIs, and storage solutions, has successfully raised $150 million in a growth funding round. The round was led by GIC, with participation from CapitalG, IronArc, and SquarePeg.
Recent Acquisition of Turso
In conjunction with this funding round, Supabase has announced the acquisition of Turso, a database infrastructure company. Turso is known for its architecture that supports on-demand databases in both public cloud and bring-your-own-cloud environments. This acquisition is part of Supabase's strategy to enhance its offerings for agent-driven workloads.
Strategic Plans for Funding Utilization
The newly acquired capital will be used to accelerate product development, particularly around databases designed for autonomous agents and AI-driven tools. Supabase also plans to use a portion of the funds to provide liquidity to its employees.
Company Growth and Market Reach
Supabase has been experiencing significant growth, adding over 1 million users and 4 million databases monthly. Notably, around 70% of these new databases are being created by AI tools and agents, marking a 600% year-over-year increase in database deployment. The company's platform supports developers and AI agents with a wide range of backend infrastructure services.
Leadership Insights
Paul Copplestone, CEO and Co-Founder of Supabase, along with Ant Wilson, Co-Founder and CTO, and Greg Kress, Ph.D., Founder Advocate, continue to lead the company through this phase of rapid expansion. Glauber Costa, the founder of Turso, will join Supabase as Head of Agentic Services, bringing additional expertise to the team.
Supabase's acquisition of Turso and the substantial growth funding position the company to further solidify its role in the development of innovative database solutions for both human developers and AI agents.
