StirLight Secures £1.25 Million in Pre-Seed Funding
StirLight, a UK-based startup, has successfully raised £1.25 million in a pre-seed funding round. The funding was led by Haatch Ventures, with additional participation from The British Business Bank and D2N2. This capital injection aims to commercialise StirLight's advanced technology that simplifies friction stir welding (FSW) by integrating expert engineering with state-of-the-art systems.
Advancing Friction Stir Welding
StirLight is focused on enhancing the adoption of friction stir welding, a process known for creating stronger and more consistent joints compared to traditional welding methods. FSW eliminates the need for filler materials and shielding gases, while also reducing energy consumption. Despite these advantages, wider adoption has been hampered by challenges in verifying weld quality during production. StirLight addresses this issue with its proprietary platform, StirSense, which provides real-time monitoring and quality assurance.
StirSense: Real-Time Quality Assurance
The StirSense platform captures and analyzes process data in real-time, detecting anomalies and providing traceable quality records for every weld. This technological advancement is crucial for sectors such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy, where StirLight is already collaborating with R&D engineers and production teams. By offering both consulting and contract manufacturing services, the company aims to support major industrial OEMs in adopting advanced manufacturing processes.
Leadership and Vision
Toby Savage, the Commercial Director and Co-Founder of StirLight, is at the helm of the company's strategic initiatives. His leadership is pivotal in steering the company towards commercial success and scaling its operations to meet industrial demands.
Strategic Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will primarily be used to commercialize StirLight's technology and accelerate its adoption across various industries. This includes expanding their real-time quality assurance capabilities to meet the growing demand for efficient and reliable welding solutions.
With this funding round, StirLight is poised to make significant strides in transforming the welding industry, offering innovative solutions that promise to enhance production efficiency and quality assurance across multiple sectors.
