SatLeo Labs Raises $2.2 Million in Seed Funding
SatLeo Labs, a spacetech startup focused on thermal vision technology, has successfully raised $2.2 million in a seed funding round. The funding was led by Unicorn India Ventures, with additional investments from Merak Ventures, Java Capital, IIMA-CIIE, and Manish Gandhi.
Company Overview
Founded by Ranendu Ghosh and Shravan Bhati, who also serves as CEO, SatLeo Labs is dedicated to capturing high-resolution thermal and visible data from Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The company aims to build a multi-spectral satellite constellation that combines thermal (infrared) and visible imaging. This technology is designed to deliver continuous, high-resolution Earth observation insights for applications in defense, agriculture, disaster response, and urban climate intelligence.
Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards advancing SatLeo Labs' flagship thermal satellite mission. The company plans to enhance its AI-powered platform for thermal intelligence applications. This involves further development of their first experimental thermal payload, TAPAS-1, which has already reached TRL-8 readiness, positioning it for launch.
Current Projects and Impact
SatLeo Labs is actively translating its technology into real-world applications. The company has initiated commercial pilot projects focusing on urban heat island and air-pollution monitoring in cities like Ahmedabad and Tumakuru, impacting over 400,000 citizens. These projects are part of SatLeo's efforts to build climate-resilient systems and assist governments and enterprises in making data-driven decisions.
Looking Ahead
With the seed funding, SatLeo Labs is set to enhance its capabilities in thermal satellite technology. The company's focus remains on expanding its platform's applications and integrating its technology into more urban and environmental monitoring projects. By doing so, SatLeo Labs aims to contribute significantly to smart planet initiatives through its innovative thermal vision solutions.
