Rize Secures Series B Funding

Rize, a company dedicated to climate-smart, low-emission rice farming using AI-powered technology and traceable supply chains, has successfully raised $31 million in a Series B funding round. The financing was led by BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts, with participation from The Rockefeller Foundation, Temasek, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

Expansion Across Southeast Asia

The funds will be directed towards scaling Rize's operations across Southeast Asia. The company plans to expand its existing operations in Vietnam and Indonesia to new markets within the region. This expansion is part of Rize's broader mission to increase its farming network significantly by 2030.

Strategic Use of Funds

Rize intends to use the newly acquired capital to enhance several facets of its operations. Key areas include:

  • Export Growth: Increasing the volume and reach of their rice exports.
  • Supply Chain Traceability: Improving traceability between farms and buyers to ensure transparency.
  • AI Tool Development: Advancing AI tools for farmers and field teams to improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Carbon-Certification Projects: Supporting innovation projects focused on carbon certification.

Leadership Comments

Dhruv Sawhney, CEO of Rize, highlighted the significance of the funding in driving the company's expansion and innovation efforts. "This investment will enable us to amplify our impact in sustainable agriculture and bring more farmers into environmentally friendly practices," he said.

Supporting Sustainable Agriculture

Rize collaborates with approximately 17,000 smallholder farmers, managing over 50,000 hectares of rice fields in Vietnam and Indonesia. The company aims to expand its reach to over 300,000 hectares and partner with more than 150,000 farmers by 2030.

Addressing Environmental Challenges

Rice farming is a notable source of methane emissions due to traditional irrigation methods. By promoting alternative irrigation techniques and leveraging AI, Rize is working to reduce these emissions and support sustainable agricultural practices.

This latest funding round marks a significant step forward for Rize as it continues to innovate and expand its influence in the agritech sector.
