Physical Superintelligence Secures $58 Million in Seed Funding
Physical Superintelligence has raised $58 million in a seed funding round aimed at developing an AI-native physics laboratory and a virtual physicist platform. The funding round was led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, with participation from notable investors such as Dragon Global, Robot Ventures, Solari, Susa, SV Angel, Valkyrie, Balaji Srinivasan, Anthony Scaramucci, OpenAI, Nvidia, SoftBank Energy, Oracle, Hugging Face, JUMP Capital, and the a16z Scout Fund.
The company, co-founded by CEO Matthew Pines, is focused on applying intelligence grounded in physical law to conduct experiments and simulations. The core offering of Physical Superintelligence is its platform, named Emmy, which involves virtual physicists running large-scale simulations to test hypotheses and design physical systems.
Development Plans
The seed capital will be utilized to establish an AI physics lab staffed by virtual physicists, capable of creating high-fidelity models of physical systems. Emmy will work on breaking down complex research questions into verifiable hypotheses and testing them in parallel. This innovative approach is expected to optimize infrastructure design, with the first commercial application being data center optimization.
Future Applications
Physical Superintelligence also plans to apply its technology to the Fermi Explorer Mission, an AI-planned interstellar mission to Alpha Centauri. The company has already validated the mission's underlying physics and identified efficient trajectories within budgetary constraints.
"PSI aims to industrialize the discovery of new physics," said CEO Matthew Pines.
Use of Funds
The funding will support recruiting efforts, model development, and the enhancement of simulation infrastructure. Research will be conducted across various areas, including sensing and new computing substrates. The goal is to advance the capabilities of the Emmy platform and explore potential applications in both terrestrial and orbital environments.
With this substantial seed investment, Physical Superintelligence is well-positioned to push the boundaries of what's possible in AI-driven physics research.
