Patentix Raises ¥150 Million in Series A Funding
Patentix, a company specializing in the research, development, manufacturing, and sales of rutile-type germanium dioxide (r-GeO2) epitaxial wafers, has successfully completed a Series A funding round. The company announced on April 7, 2026, that it has raised ¥150 million. The funding round was led by Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, with participation from TMH.
Focus on Next-Generation Power Semiconductor Materials
Patentix is a startup that emerged from Ritsumeikan University, focusing on the development of epitaxial wafers using r-GeO2. This ultra-wide bandgap material is anticipated to provide high breakdown voltage and low power loss, which is crucial for power semiconductor applications. The company's technology includes fabricating rutile-type GeO2 thin films on silicon substrates and advanced doping techniques.
Application and Market Strategy
The company's target market includes device manufacturers involved in power conversion and control for sectors such as home appliances, electric vehicles, power infrastructure, data centers, and aerospace. Patentix aims to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and has already begun shipping paid samples through its partnership with NICHIDEN SEIMITSU KOGYO.
Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards accelerating research and development initiatives and strengthening manufacturing capacity. Patentix plans to advance the development of 6-inch GeO2 substrates and GeO2 power devices. These products are geared towards applications that demand high performance in extreme conditions, such as automotive, power infrastructure, and aerospace.
Industry Support and Future Plans
Patentix has been selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "Growth-Oriented SME R&D Support Program (Go-Tech Program)," which will further aid its development efforts. The company continues to focus on the real-world implementation of its technologies, intending to meet the needs of its diverse client base.
With this funding, Patentix is set to make significant strides in the power semiconductor industry, leveraging its unique r-GeO2 technology to meet the growing demands for efficient and reliable power conversion solutions.
