Outro Raises $7 Million in Seed Funding

Outro, a healthcare company based in New York, has successfully raised $7 million in a seed funding round. The company specializes in neuroscience-based tapering of psychiatric medications, guided by licensed clinicians and delivered through virtual care. Founded by Brandon Goode and Dr. Mark Horowitz, Outro aims to assist patients in discontinuing medications that may no longer be necessary, focusing initially on antidepressants.

Investors and Funding Details

The seed funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors, including Listen Ventures, Cake Ventures, Jason Calacanis’s LAUNCH, Actions Capital, Hannah Grey Ventures, SemperVirens, Brock Recovery Group, and Pave Health Ventures.

Expansion Plans

With the newly acquired funds, Outro plans to expand its deprescribing platform beyond antidepressants. The company intends to grow its network of clinicians and develop AI-supported workflows, which will be instrumental in addressing additional medication categories. Outro’s flagship Taper Management program is currently available in 14 states and combines evidence-informed tapering protocols, ongoing patient monitoring, and psychosocial support.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Healthcare

According to Outro, a significant portion of Americans—approximately one in six—are on antidepressants, with an average usage duration exceeding five years. The company highlights the gap between medication prescription and effective discontinuation support, which it aims to fill by building a comprehensive deprescribing network. Research led by Dr. Mark Horowitz indicates that many long-term users face withdrawal symptoms that make stopping the medication challenging. Outro's approach focuses on individualized tapering plans, emphasizing continuous monitoring and adjustment.

Brandon Goode, Co-Founder & CEO, is committed to addressing the lack of support in medication discontinuation: “We are building a specialized clinical infrastructure that treats discontinuation as an ongoing process, not just a single prescription change.”

Outro’s platform is designed to provide an integrated solution for patients and clinicians, facilitating a smoother transition off medications when needed.
