Opal Security Secures $23 Million in Latest Funding Round

Opal Security, a company specializing in access management for modern enterprises, announced it has raised $23 million in a recent funding round. The round was led by Greylock and Battery Ventures, with additional participation from Cambium Capital.

Company Overview

Opal Security provides a platform that enables security and engineering teams to manage access for various entities within an enterprise, including employees, service accounts, and AI agents. This approach helps organizations ensure that access permissions are properly scoped and risks minimized.

Leadership and Expansion

The funding round coincides with a significant expansion of Opal's leadership team. Umaimah Khan, Co-Founder and CEO, continues to lead the company as it grows. Joining the leadership team are several new executives, including Alex Pien as Chief Technology Officer and Sameer Mehta as Chief Product Officer. These appointments are part of the company's strategy to accelerate growth and enhance its platform.

"We are committed to addressing the evolving challenges of identity security in the age of AI," said Umaimah Khan, Co-Founder and CEO of Opal Security.

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly raised $23 million will be used to further develop Opal's platform, which now incorporates AI agents into the standard access governance framework. This includes features like access reviews, ownership controls, policy management, and auditing. The company plans to expand its team significantly, with more than 60% of its workforce having joined since early 2026. This hiring surge is focused on enhancing engineering, product development, and go-to-market capabilities.

Addressing Identity Security Challenges

Opal Security is responding to the increasing need for organizations to govern access not just for human users but also for AI agents. The company has introduced its AI-powered engine, Paladin, to provide visibility and governance over access controls. This engine evaluates access requests and escalates only those that require human intervention, streamlining the access management process.

Growing Client Base

Opal's platform is already in use by notable companies such as Databricks, Notion, Cloudflare, and SpaceXAI. These organizations leverage Opal's solutions to modernize their identity management and access governance strategies. The company reports that Databricks alone processes 86,000 just-in-time access requests through Opal’s platform.

With this latest funding, Opal Security is poised to continue its growth and innovation in the field of access governance, addressing the complex security needs of modern enterprises.
