Omega Ophthalmics Raises $7 Million in Series A Funding

Omega Ophthalmics, a Lexington, Kentucky-based company, has successfully secured $7 million in a Series A funding round. This financing was led by a group of ultra-high-net-worth investors. Omega Ophthalmics is focused on advancing its innovative implant, the Gemini Capsule, which is designed to maintain the capsular bag in an open configuration during cataract surgery and provide a stable platform for intraocular lenses.

Leadership and Vision

The company was founded by Gary WΓΆrtz, who also serves as the Chief Medical Officer, while Rick Ifland is the CEO. Ifland commented on the funding, saying, β€œThis financing, together with our upcoming FDA pre-submission meeting, represents a significant step forward as we execute our regulatory strategy and prepare for the next phase of clinical development.”

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly acquired funds will be utilized for continued product development, intellectual property activities, regulatory work, and manufacturing scale-up. Omega Ophthalmics is also planning for clinical trials as part of their path toward FDA approval. A pre-submission meeting with the FDA has been scheduled to align their regulatory and clinical development plans.

Future Developments

The Gemini Capsule presents a promising approach to improving long-term refractive stability and allowing for future lens exchanges in ophthalmic surgeries. Its development is seen as a potential solution to some of the challenges associated with conventional intraocular lens implantation.

Omega Ophthalmics recently shared its clinical development strategy at the Octane Ophthalmology Tech Forum, further engaging with investors and industry leaders to discuss the future of the Gemini platform.
