Morphotonics Secures €40 Million in Funding
Morphotonics, a Netherlands-based company, has raised €40 million in an undisclosed funding round to further develop its large-area nanoimprint lithography technology. The technology is primarily used for scalable AR waveguide manufacturing, nano-optics, and advanced photonics applications.
Investors and Company Background
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors including 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries, BOM, Invest-NL, European Innovation Council Fund, Ernij Next, and the European Investment Bank. Morphotonics is located in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and was co-founded by Bram Titulaer, who serves as the Chief Development Officer, and Jan Meulen, the company's Chief Technology Officer.
Expanding into New Markets
Morphotonics plans to use the newly acquired funds to scale up production and expand into the market for optical components used in data centers. This strategic move comes as demand for smart glasses and other optical technologies surges globally. Morphotonics' nanoimprint lithography enables the creation of waveguide technology, which is essential for smart glasses like the Meta Ray-Ban Display.
Technology and Applications
The company's technology involves creating a 'stamp' that is applied to photosensitive materials, enabling the production of various display types. These displays are crucial for augmented reality glasses and privacy screens for vehicles, among other applications.
Future Plans
With this new investment, Morphotonics aims to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and explore new applications for its technology in the data center sector. This expansion is expected to meet the growing demand for advanced optical components across various industries.
Morphotonics has been developing its nanoimprint lithography technology for over a decade, and this funding represents a significant milestone in its growth trajectory.
