Yokohama-based startup LQUOM has successfully raised ¥1.23 billion in its Series B funding round, which closed on April 23, 2026. The company, spearheaded by CEO Kazuya Niizeki, is dedicated to creating a secure quantum internet, particularly targeting sectors like finance, telemedicine, and defense. LQUOM is working on long-distance quantum communication technologies, including quantum repeaters, to ensure that data transmitted over the internet remains secure, especially in the era of quantum computing.
Investors and Participation
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of investors. The initial close included SBI Investment, ORIX Capital, Osaka University Venture Capital, SMBC Venture Capital, JMTC Capital, Anritsu, and Bio-Sight Capital. The second close brought in additional investment from Nissay Capital, MPower Partners, and SCREEN Holdings.
Technological Developments and Achievements
LQUOM has been actively developing its quantum communication technologies, with notable achievements including the commercialization of the resonator-integrated quantum entangled light source, "LQ-PS-100." This product, expected to be released in 2024, features wavelength combinations of 606nm and 1550nm with a line width of less than 5MHz. The company has also demonstrated its technology in real-world environments using commercial optical fiber networks.
