Lastwall Secures $16 Million in Series A Extension to Enhance Cyber Defense Capabilities
Lastwall, a cybersecurity company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has successfully raised $16 million in a Series A extension round. The round was led by BDC Capital's StrongNorth Fund, with participation from New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, Frostbite Capital, Blue Bear Capital, 18West, and Blue Wing Ventures.
Lastwall specializes in empowering defense and government agencies by bolstering defenses against credential-based attacks, phishing, and emerging quantum threats. The company also focuses on simplifying user onboarding, managing permissions, and ensuring compliance.
Addressing Modern Cyber Threats
In today’s digital landscape, critical infrastructure such as communications, weaponry, and essential services are increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks. Lastwall's CEO, Karl Holmqvist, highlighted the growing threat, stating that foreign actors are targeting crucial sectors like water and power supplies. "We're seeing foreign nation-states hacking our critical infrastructure, our water, our power, the food supply chains; all those things need to be defended," Holmqvist said.
The company's flagship product, IDCommand, plays a crucial role in mitigating these threats by evaluating over 200 characteristics of each login attempt. This includes monitoring keystroke patterns, mouse movements, and hardware configurations to detect anomalies. If an unusual activity is detected, the system prompts additional authentication to prevent unauthorized access.
Strategic Use of Funds
The $16 million raised in this funding round will allow Lastwall to enhance its product offerings and expand its reach within the defense and government sectors. While specific plans for the funds were not detailed, investments of this nature typically support product development and market expansion.
Investor Confidence
The participation of prominent investors such as BDC Capital and others underscores confidence in Lastwall’s mission and technological capabilities. This investment is expected to accelerate Lastwall's efforts in fortifying cybersecurity measures for critical infrastructure.
By securing this funding, Lastwall is well-positioned to continue its work in protecting key sectors from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, ensuring robust defense mechanisms are in place for government and defense agencies.
