Kotoba Technologies Secures Seed Funding
Kotoba Technologies, a San Francisco-based company specializing in real-time voice AI and simultaneous translation technology, has announced a successful $10 million seed funding round. The investment was led by Kindred Ventures, with additional participation from Salesforce Ventures and Sony Innovation Fund. This funding aims to support the expansion of Kotoba's voice AI platform, particularly across East Asia.
Leadership and Vision
Kotoba Technologies was founded by Noriyuki Kojima, who serves as CEO, and Jungo Kasai, the company's CTO. The duo is focused on advancing their proprietary speech model, known as Koto, which is optimized for real-time applications in East Asian languages, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. "Our goal is to integrate Koto into a variety of devices and applications to make seamless communication a reality," Kojima stated.
Strategic Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards several key areas:
- Advancing Speech Models: Kotoba plans to invest in enhancing its speech-to-speech models, which have demonstrated sub-2-second latency in simultaneous translation. This enhancement will allow broader applications, such as AI agents and smart devices.
- On-device Deployment: Efforts will focus on optimizing the Koto model for efficient operation on edge chips, expanding its reach into industries like automotive, electronics, and AI wearables.
- Enterprise Expansion: The company aims to bolster the Koto ecosystem for enterprise clients globally, facilitating entry into Asian markets and supporting companies' expansion efforts.
Technology and Market Expansion
Kotoba's Koto model can be deployed in various formats, including speech-to-speech, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech models. The technology is already in use by global organizations, including Fortune Global 500 companies, for applications such as AI voice agents and contact center interfaces.
The company has also released an alpha version of its API and a user-friendly Python SDK to increase developer engagement. This move is expected to broaden the accessibility of Kotoba's models, allowing for testing and integration into diverse applications.
Looking Ahead
With this seed funding, Kotoba Technologies is well-positioned to accelerate the rollout of its innovative voice AI technology. By focusing on expanding its market presence and enhancing its product offerings, the company aims to redefine real-time communication and translation across multiple sectors.
