Ionage Raises $1.3 Million to Expand EV Charging Network

In a significant development for India's electric vehicle (EV) sector, Ionage, a Bengaluru-based startup, has successfully raised $1.3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round. The investment comes from a consortium of senior executives from global energy and infrastructure companies. Ionage is known for its unified charging software that simplifies operations for drivers, manufacturers, and charging operators, thereby accelerating EV adoption across the country.

Company Overview

Ionage focuses on addressing critical gaps in India's EV charging infrastructure by providing a common platform that enhances interoperability. This platform connects charging operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), real estate owners, and EV drivers, allowing seamless discovery, access, and payment for charging services. The startup currently supports over 25,000 four-wheeler charging points, 63 fleets, and 75 charging partners nationwide, spanning 33 states and union territories.

Founders and Leadership

The company was co-founded by Varun Chandran, who serves as the COO, and Vijith Vijith, the CTO. Vimal V leads the company as the Chief Executive Officer. These leaders are driving Ionage's mission to improve the reliability and integration of EV charging networks in India.

Strategic Use of Funds

Ionage plans to utilize the fresh capital to expand its coverage to 100% of active EV charging networks throughout India. This includes improving charger discoverability and payment services and aiding small and medium-sized charge point operators (CPOs) in establishing and managing charging stations more effectively.

Addressing Infrastructure Challenges

The funding round is timely as India continues to expand its EV charging infrastructure. Ionage aims to tackle ongoing challenges, such as the non-functionality of public chargers and the lack of network integration, with its software platform. The startup highlights that nearly two in five public chargers are non-functional at any given time, underlining the need for improved infrastructure.

Ionage's efforts are a crucial part of enhancing the overall EV ecosystem in India, making charging more accessible and reliable for users across the nation.
