Inner Logic Raises $11.5 Million in Seed Funding

Inner Logic, a Baltimore-based company focused on enhancing the design and testing of procedural medical devices, announced it has secured $11.5 million in a seed funding round. The round was co-led by General Catalyst and Bison Ventures, with participation from J2VP, Defined, PTX, Valia Ventures, Page One, Alumni Ventures, and Flare.

Inner Logic, which was previously known as Semaphor, is working on developing advanced simulation and data infrastructure. This technology allows medical device manufacturers to test their products across numerous virtual patients and procedures. By doing so, it aims to improve the design and validation process of medical devices, supplementing traditional physical testing methods such as prototypes, cadaver labs, and animal studies.

Founders and Leadership

The company was co-founded by Dr. Tito Porras, who serves as CEO, Dr. Mathias Unberath as CTO, and Dr. Axel Krieger as Chief Robotics Officer. Together, they bring a wealth of experience, having authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications and holding more than 40 patents. Dr. Porras, who left a career in neurosurgery to pursue this venture, is instrumental in steering the company's strategic direction.

Use of Funds

The newly acquired funds will be directed towards further developing Inner Logic's simulation platform. The company aims to expand its capabilities to support both conventional devices like heart valves and catheters, and intelligent systems such as autonomous surgical technologies. This expansion is crucial as it will enable more comprehensive testing, covering a wider range of anatomical variations and potential procedural complications.

Inner Logic has already made significant strides in this area. Their team successfully trained artificial intelligence algorithms entirely in simulation for an orthopedic trauma application, which were then deployed on physical hardware and patient anatomy. Additionally, they completed key steps of a gallbladder removal in a live animal model without surgeon intervention, marking important research milestones.
