Hyades Raises $1.1 Million in Pre-Seed Funding
Auckland-based startup Hyades has successfully raised $1.1 million in a pre-seed funding round. The company, which specializes in using hyperspectral intelligence for earth-analysis applications, aims to transform complex spatial data into actionable insights for industries like insurance, agriculture, mining, and climate science.
Investors and Leadership
The funding round was spearheaded by Icehouse Ventures, with additional financial backing from K1W1 and angel investors Tony Falkenstein and Tim Brown. Founded by University of Auckland graduates Ashin Alex, Jimin Seo, and Samuel Kurian, Hyades is poised to advance its platform that integrates map-based data from sources such as satellite imagery and drone footage.
CEO Ashin Alex, who has a background in physics and previously worked on optical communications technology, leads the company alongside Co-Founder and Operations & Partnerships head Jimin Seo and Software Lead Samuel Kurian.
Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards several key areas. Hyades plans to secure enterprise co-design partners, recruit AI engineering talent, and scale its platform for a broader release. These steps are crucial as the company continues to develop its platform, which is currently in the early alpha phase.
Future Developments
With this infusion of capital, Hyades aims to solidify its position in the AI mapping industry. The company is focused on enhancing its platform to better serve its target markets by providing a unified view of complex technical data.
