Gradium Raises $100 Million in Seed Extension
Gradium, a Paris-based startup specializing in ultra low latency voice AI models, has successfully raised $100 million in a seed extension round. The funding was led by tech giant Nvidia, with participation from FirstMark Capital, Eurazeo, DST Global Partners, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and French telecom magnate Xavier Niel.
Gradium's technology enables developers to generate expressive text-to-speech, accurate speech-to-text, and high-fidelity voice clones through a single API. The company aims to deliver AI voices that respond almost instantly, minimizing the delay often experienced in AI communications.
Strategic Plans for New Funding
The newly acquired funds will be utilized to expand Gradium's presence in the United States, specifically by opening an office in the San Francisco Bay Area. This move aims to tap into the rich talent pool and competitive AI ecosystem there. "Strengthening our position at the heart of the world's leading AI ecosystem is a strategic priority," said Neil Zeghidour, CEO and co-founder of Gradium.
Competitive Landscape
Gradium, co-founded by Neil Zeghidour and Olivier Teboul, emerged from the French AI lab Kyutai. Both the lab and the startup were co-founded by Zeghidour, who has a background with Google Brain, DeepMind, and Facebook. The company faces competition from other voice AI firms like ElevenLabs and major tech players such as Google's Gemini. Despite the competition, Gradium has already secured significant clients, including French automotive giant Renault.
Investor Insights
Nvidiaβs involvement as the lead investor underscores the growing interest in AI voice technologies and their potential applications. The participation of high-profile investors like Eric Schmidt and Xavier Niel highlights the confidence in Gradium's innovative approach and market potential.
Gradium's focus on delivering high-performance voice AI models positions it as a notable player in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. As the company gears up to expand its operations and reach, the fresh capital provides a solid foundation for its growth ambitions.
