Gaianixx Secures ¥2 Billion in Series C Funding

Gaianixx, a Tokyo-based company known for its advanced semiconductor technologies, has successfully raised ¥2 billion in a Series C funding round. Gaianixx specializes in developing and manufacturing high-quality single-crystal films essential for semiconductors, leveraging their proprietary "pluripotent intermediate membranes" to improve the performance of power devices and LEDs.

Key Investors and Participants

The funding round attracted multiple investors, including University of Tokyo Edge Capital Partners (UTEC), JX Nippon Mining & Metals, JIC Venture Growth Investments (JIC VGI), Alconix, i-nest Capital, and SMBC Venture Capital. New participants in this round were Mitsui Kinzoku-SBI Material Innovation Fund II, Vertex Ventures Japan, Toray International, and Kiraboshi Capital.

Strategic Expansion Plans

The ¥2 billion infusion will support Gaianixx's strategic plans to scale operations, with a focus on their Yamanashi Technical Center. The company aims to enhance its proprietary pilot line and strengthen its global business development. This includes expanding its presence in North America, Europe, and Asia, aligning with its goal to attract specialized talent for further innovation.

Gaianixx's Technological Edge

Gaianixx's unique technology involves the use of a special intermediate layer that mitigates lattice mismatches, facilitating the creation of high-quality semiconductor films. This technology is expected to add value and reduce costs in compound semiconductors, particularly those used in power semiconductors and LEDs.

CEO Kento Nakao commented on the progress: "Our transition from research to commercialization is well underway, with two companies already completing device development using our materials."

Global Interest and Intellectual Property

Approximately 40 companies, including leading semiconductor manufacturers, have shown interest in collaborating with Gaianixx, exploring applications in next-generation sensors, communication devices, and power semiconductors. Additionally, Gaianixx holds 12 patents and is actively pursuing 87 more, showcasing their commitment to innovation and protecting their intellectual property.

With this new funding, Gaianixx is well-positioned to advance its innovative semiconductor technologies and expand its global footprint.
