Furientis Raises Seed Funding to Advance Defense Systems

Furientis, a Los Angeles-based company specializing in high-production-rate defensive systems, has successfully raised $25 million in seed funding. The round was led by Benchmark, a prominent venture capital firm. This funding marks a significant milestone for Furientis, as it also secures its first government contract with the Department of War.

Focus on Scalable Defense Solutions

Furientis is working on developing cost-effective defensive interceptors with a focus on scalable manufacturing. Unlike traditional missile programs, Furientis designs its systems with manufacturability at the forefront, aiming to produce interceptor vehicles at a rate of 1,000 units annually per factory. Their approach includes utilizing commercial off-the-shelf components and an efficient final assembly process that takes less than an hour per interceptor.

Government Contract and Manufacturing Goals

The company has entered into a prototyping agreement with the Department of War, focusing on a 100-mile-range interceptor vehicle for homeland defense. The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but it is structured as an Other Transaction Agreement, allowing Furientis to demonstrate its interceptor's performance against government standards.

Co-founder and Head of Propulsion, Aris Simsarian, highlighted the urgency of their mission: "Recent events have shown these threats are not theoretical, and the U.S. is genuinely running low on the systems that protect the American people."

Strategic Use of Funds

The $25 million seed funding will be utilized to enhance Furientis's manufacturing capabilities, expand flight-test operations, and increase hiring in engineering and manufacturing sectors at their Los Angeles facility. The company’s innovative approach includes biweekly prototype testing, allowing for rapid design modifications based on flight data.

Leadership and Investment

Benchmark's General Partner, Chetan Puttagunta, will join Furientis's Board of Directors as part of the funding agreement. Furientis was co-founded by Brody Franzen and Aris Simsarian, both of whom play critical roles in guiding the company's strategic direction.

Furientis's focus on high-volume production and cost efficiency positions it uniquely in the defense technology market as it aims to address the demand for defensive munitions.
