Flare Therapeutics Secures $85 Million in Series C Financing

Flare Therapeutics, a biotechnology company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has announced the successful closure of an $85 million Series C funding round. The company specializes in targeting transcription factors to develop precision medicines, particularly in the field of cancer treatment.

Lead Investors and Participants

The Series C round was led by Third Rock Ventures and Nextech Invest. Other notable participants in this round included Pfizer Ventures, Boxer Capital, GordonMD Global Investments ® LP, Invus, Casdin Capital, Eli Lilly and Company, Novartis, Agent Capital, and Eventide Asset Management. This funding round underscores the continued interest and confidence from both existing and new investors in Flare Therapeutics' innovative approach to drug development.

New CEO Appointment

In conjunction with this financing, Flare Therapeutics appointed Anna Protopapas as the new Chief Executive Officer. Protopapas, a veteran biotech executive, is expected to steer the company through its next phase of growth, focusing on advancing their prostate cancer treatment programs.

Strategic Use of Funds

The newly secured funds will primarily be used to advance Flare Therapeutics’ lead program, FX-111, which is a first-in-class, selective degrader targeting the androgen receptor (AR ON) in prostate cancer. This program aims to overcome the resistance mechanisms often encountered in current hormone therapy treatments. Additionally, the funds will support the preclinical development of the AR ON RIPTAC program, as well as general corporate purposes and working capital.

Focus on Prostate Cancer Treatment

Flare Therapeutics is concentrating its efforts on developing treatments for prostate cancer, a significant area of unmet medical need. By focusing on transcription factors as therapeutic targets, the company hopes to pioneer new approaches that could offer more effective and durable treatment options for patients.

Robert Sims, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-founder, is expected to continue playing a pivotal role in guiding the scientific direction of the company as it navigates these developmental milestones.
