Ferm Labs Raises €3 Million in Seed Funding
Ferm Labs, a Zug-based startup specializing in fermentation-based, clean-label flavour enhancers, has successfully raised €3 million in a seed funding round. The funding was spearheaded by CDP Venture Capital, with additional participation from Fund F, Redstone, Euregio+, Alpine VC, and Loacker.
Company Background
Ferm Labs focuses on developing clean-label flavour systems for the food industry, aiming to reduce salt and sugar content while replacing traditional additives like MSG, yeast extract, and HVP. The company leverages high-yield bioprocessing technology to produce these natural ingredients.
Leadership Team
The company was co-founded by Mattia Baroni, who serves as the Chief Technology Officer, and Stephanie Lüpold, who is the Chief Executive Officer. Lüpold highlighted the transformative potential of their technology, stating, "The era of flavour trade-offs is officially over. Kokumesan proves what our platform can do in cheese flavouring, but it is just our launchpad."
Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be utilized to scale Ferm Labs' bioprocessing platform and to expand its presence in the global clean-label ingredient market. This expansion strategy is in line with the company’s goal to redefine the B2B ingredient sector by combining advanced bioprocessing techniques with natural food solutions.
Investor Participation
CDP Venture Capital led the round through its Green Transition Fund, supported by NextGenerationEU. The round also included investments from European entities such as Fund F, Redstone, Euregio+, and Alpine VC. Notably, food industry company Loacker joined the funding round, indicating strong interest from within the sector.
This funding round marks a significant step for Ferm Labs as it seeks to scale its innovative solutions and broaden its market reach.
