Fab2 Secures Major Series A Funding

Austin-based Fab2, a semiconductor startup specializing in the development of hardware and software for chip manufacturing, has successfully raised $500 million in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Fundomo, with additional participation from several other prominent investors, including Corner Capital, Paradigm, Duquesne Family Office, Maverick Silicon, StepStone Group, Protagonist, UDC Ventures, and angel investor Naval Ravikant.

Innovative Approach to Chip Manufacturing

Fab2 is known for its comprehensive approach to building chip fabs and the essential tools and components required for chip manufacturing. The company designs and manufactures every piece of equipment necessary for a fab, including pumps, valves, gas lines, lithography tools, and vacuum chambers. This process is automated using software to facilitate rapid testing of new manufacturing processes.

Co-founded by Sam Zeloof, who also serves as the CEO, and Jim Keller, Fab2 describes its operation as a 'fab fab'โ€”a factory that manufactures factories. According to Zeloof, "We print chips," highlighting the company's mission to streamline and innovate the chip manufacturing process.

Strategic Use of Funds

While the company has not disclosed specific plans for the newly acquired funds, it is anticipated that the capital will be used to scale its operations and enhance its manufacturing capabilities. This significant investment will likely support the expansion of their innovative 'fab fab' model, enabling quicker and more efficient production of semiconductor devices.

Location and Leadership

Based in Austin, Texas, Fab2 is at the forefront of semiconductor innovation under the leadership of its co-founders. The company is positioned to play a significant role in the semiconductor industry, especially at a time when demand for efficient and scalable chip production solutions is high.
