ETN Raises $1.6 Million in Seed Funding

ETN, a London-based media platform known as the European Technology Network, has successfully raised $1.6 million in a seed funding round. The funding was led by Axel Springer and Powerhouse Capital, with additional investments from OpenAI and DeepMind. The company, co-founded by Luke Knight and Ronan Chambers, aims to become a significant player in the European tech media landscape, akin to the US-based TBPN.

Aiming to Transform European Tech Media

ETN has set its sights on becoming a prominent media platform for technology news and discussions in Europe. The company has already garnered significant attention, boasting over 5 million views across platforms like YouTube and X. Recently, ETN has increased its live show offerings from two to five per week to keep up with the fast-paced European startup ecosystem.

Ronan Chambers, co-founder of ETN, expressed surprise at the level of interest from investors, stating, "By the end of the round, we were actually turning people away." The demand from investors, many of whom were fans and viewers of the show, led to an oversubscribed funding round.

Strategic Use of Funds

A significant portion of the newly acquired funds will be used to enhance ETN's production capabilities. The company has invested in a "state-of-the-art" studio located near King's Cross in London. This expansion also includes key hires, such as former Bloomberg chief of staff Alexandra Best and the former head of video production at Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, ETN has recruited four former employees of TBPN, further strengthening its team.

The company is committed to maintaining a lean operational model, heavily leveraging AI to streamline its processes. "When you compare us with the budgets of traditional media shows, we think we're building the next generation of what a newsroom can look like," Chambers noted.

Expanding Content to Meet Demand

ETN's decision to increase the frequency of its live shows is a direct response to the growing volume of story pitches and the rapid evolution of the European tech scene. Chambers highlighted the necessity of a daily format to keep pace with the ecosystem, emphasizing the need for faster discussions around AI and technology developments in Europe.

Over the past eight months, ETN has featured numerous prominent figures from the tech industry, including founders from companies like Synthesia, Granola, and Legora. This expansion reflects ETN's commitment to becoming a central hub for tech news and discussions in Europe.

With this new funding, ETN is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory and further establish itself as a leading voice in the European tech media space.
