Delos Data Raises $100 Million to Tackle AI Data Center Bottlenecks
Delos Data, a chip startup based in Palo Alto, California, has successfully raised $100 million in an undisclosed funding round. The round was led by Matrix Partners, with participation from notable investors including Playground Global, Socratic Partners, Capricorn’s Technology Impact Fund, Matter Venture Partners, IAG, and DYNAMIQ.
The company, founded by Intel veterans, is focused on resolving a critical issue in AI data centers: the inefficiencies caused by GPUs and accelerators that sit idle waiting for data. Delos Data aims to address the bottleneck that occurs in the communication between chips, which is becoming increasingly important as data centers diversify their hardware beyond Nvidia GPUs.
Founders and Leadership
Delos Data was co-founded by Dan Daly, who serves as CTO, and Ed Doe, the CEO. Their experience from Intel has been instrumental in identifying and addressing the specific challenges faced by AI data centers today.
Use of Funds
The newly acquired capital will be used to expand Delos Data's hardware and software engineering teams, as well as to accelerate product development and sales efforts. This strategic investment is intended to enhance the company's ability to provide solutions that improve the efficiency of chip communications within data centers.
"I can have all the computers in the world, and if I can't get these devices communicating effectively with one another, I've got lots of hot hardware, burning watts and sitting here twiddling their thumbs," said former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, now a general partner at Playground Global.
Addressing AI Infrastructure Challenges
As AI infrastructure evolves, the diversity of hardware used in data centers is increasing. This shift creates a demand for improved interconnectivity between different types of chips, including GPUs, CPUs, and custom accelerators. Delos Data's approach aims to optimize these interactions, making AI processes more efficient and cost-effective.
With this funding, Delos Data is well-positioned to make significant advancements in solving these complex infrastructure challenges, potentially reshaping how data centers manage AI workloads.
