CLAS Raises ¥13.8 Billion in Latest Funding Round
CLAS, a Japanese company providing a subscription service for furniture and home appliances, has successfully raised ¥13.8 billion in an undisclosed funding round. The lead investor in this round is the Panasonic Kurashi Visionary Fund, a joint venture fund operated by Panasonic and SBI Investment. Other notable participants in the funding include SBI Investment, Shizuoka Bank, Shoko Chukin Bank, and Yamanashi Chuo Bank.
Innovative Subscription Model
CLAS offers a unique service that allows customers to rent stylish furniture and popular home appliances for a reasonable monthly fee. This model provides flexibility, enabling users to experience various items without the burden of ownership. Customers have the option to purchase items they enjoy by paying the remaining value. The service is not limited to individuals; it also extends to businesses through "CLAS Biz" and to real estate through "CLAS Home Staging".
Business Growth and Achievements
CLAS has demonstrated significant growth in recent years. As of February 2026, the company boasts over 270,000 individual members and more than 3,500 corporate accounts. The cumulative number of items provided by CLAS reached 350,000 by April 2026, with a total circulation count exceeding 330,000. The company has achieved a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.7% from the fiscal year ending February 2021 to February 2026, alongside a gross profit margin of 61.3%. Both operating profit and cash flow turned positive in the fiscal year ending February 2026.
Environmental Impact
CLAS's business model also contributes to environmental sustainability. According to estimates from a demonstration project by Japan's Ministry of the Environment, CLAS's services can reduce waste generation and resource input by 38% and CO2 emissions by 36% compared to traditional sales models.
Use of Funds
The newly raised funds will be allocated towards strengthening CLAS's business structure and financial base. This includes enhancing their in-house developed Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Order Management System (OMS), which streamline data management from procurement to delivery, and repair to re-rental. These systems also maintain a repair history database at the component level for each product, with some items being reused up to 10 times.
This latest round of funding marks a significant milestone for CLAS as it continues to expand its innovative subscription service, aiming to provide more flexibility and sustainability in consumer goods usage.
