Claris Biotherapeutics Raises $118 Million in Series B Funding
Jersey City, New Jersey-based Claris Biotherapeutics has successfully closed a $118 million Series B funding round. The financing was co-led by Samsara Biocapital and Catalio Capital Management. Other participants included Adage Capital Management, Sofinnova Investments, Aisling Capital, ADAR1 Capital Management, Novo Holdings, Janus Henderson Investors, and Mass General Brigham Ventures. Claris Bio focuses on developing groundbreaking therapies for severe eye conditions that currently have limited or no treatment options.
Focus on Advancing Treatments for Eye Diseases
Claris Biotherapeutics is committed to addressing sight-threatening conditions, particularly those with few existing treatment avenues. The company is advancing its lead candidate, CSB-001, an oremepermin alfa ophthalmic solution, aimed at treating limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). LSCD is a severe condition affecting the ocular surface, often leading to blindness, for which there is currently no approved drug therapy.
Strategic Use of Funds
The newly secured funds will be instrumental in moving Claris Bio's lead candidate, CSB-001, through pivotal studies planned for the first half of 2027. These studies aim to build on positive proof-of-concept data that demonstrated significant improvements in visual acuity for LSCD patients. The financing will also support pre-commercialization activities, laying the groundwork for potential future market entry.

Claris Biotherapeutics has also announced several key leadership appointments. Clarke Atwell continues to serve as CEO and President, steering the company's strategic vision. In addition, Stephen Brady has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer, Brian Baum has been named Chief Commercial Officer, and Marc de Garidel will serve as Chairman of the Board.
