Breye Therapeutics Secures Significant Series A Investment

Breye Therapeutics, a company focused on developing treatments for retinal diseases, announced it has raised €67.5 million in a Series A funding round. The financing was co-led by Mission BioCapital and Novo Holdings, with participation from Sound Bioventures, the Ljungström family office, Innovestor Life Science, EIFO, Catalyze Capital, Modi Ventures, and Pappas Capital.

Clinical Advancements and Use of Funds

The funds will primarily be used to advance Breye Therapeutics' lead candidate, danegaptide, into a Phase 2 clinical trial for non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). The trial aims to demonstrate clinical proof of concept and is expected to commence in 2027. Danegaptide is an oral small molecule designed to stabilize retinal vasculature and prevent capillary breakdown, which is often a complication of diabetes.

In addition to progressing danegaptide, part of the funding will support the company's broader pipeline. This includes a P2X7 receptor antagonist for intermediate age-related macular degeneration and neuroprotective candidates for glaucoma.

Leadership Insights

Ulrik Mouritzen, CEO of Breye Therapeutics, commented on the funding round, stating: "This €67.5m Series A financing, which includes significant support from both new and existing investors, reflects the strong confidence in Breye’s vision, strategy, and pipeline."

Investor Engagement

As part of the financing, Robert Blazej of Mission BioCapital and Lukas Ljungström of the Ljungström family office will join Breye's board, bringing additional expertise and guidance to the company's strategic efforts.

Breye Therapeutics continues to focus on providing innovative, patient-friendly treatment options for those suffering from retinal diseases, aiming to address the unmet needs of millions affected globally.
