Big Picture Bio Raises €1.75 Million in Pre-Seed Funding
Big Picture Bio, a biotech startup based in London, has secured €1.75 million in a pre-seed funding round. The round was co-led by Kadmos Capital and Exceptional Ventures, with additional participation from Gloucester Ventures and angel investor John White. The company focuses on predicting novel synergistic drug combinations using advanced AI techniques, aiming to address complex diseases that are beyond the reach of traditional machine learning models.
Founders and Leadership
The company was founded by Kerstin Papenfuss, who serves as CEO, and Mark Hammond, the CTO. Commenting on the funding, Papenfuss stated, "Cancer is not one disease driven by one target, but we still develop drugs as if it were. Combinations are how we beat it – and with more than 900 billion of them possible, no lab on earth can test its way to the right ones."
Use of Funds
The newly acquired funds will be directed towards developing Big Picture Bio's AI-based approach to combination therapies. This approach involves AI modeling combined with laboratory testing to identify promising drug combinations, particularly for cancer and other complex diseases.
The company plans to use the funding to transition its first designed combinations from models to laboratory testing, an essential step in developing effective therapies.
Location
Big Picture Bio is based in London, England, United Kingdom.
