Beren Therapeutics Secures $300 Million Funding
Beren Therapeutics, a Thousand Oaks, California-based company dedicated to creating transformative medicines for patients, has announced a significant funding achievement. The company has raised $300 million in an undisclosed funding round. This capital will aid in the potential commercial launch of adrabetadex, a treatment for infantile-onset Niemann-Pick disease type C (I-NPC).
Investors and Funding Breakdown
The funding round saw participation from several notable investors, including Wellington Partners, JIC Venture Growth Investments (JIC VGI), Founders Fund, Narya Capital, and Eisai. The $300 million package is composed of a $135 million equity round and up to $165 million in non-dilutive funding from Hercules Capital.
Company Objectives and Use of Funds
The funds will be strategically used to prepare for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) potential approval of adrabetadex, with a target action date set for November 17, 2026. Beren Therapeutics plans to channel the proceeds into several key areas:
- Commercial Readiness: Preparing for the potential market introduction of adrabetadex.
- Patient Access and Support: Developing infrastructure and programs to assist families with diagnosis, treatment decisions, specialist care, and reimbursement processes.
- Expanded Treatment Sites: Increasing the number of sites where the treatment can be administered.
- Real-World Evidence Generation: Collecting long-term data to support the treatment’s effectiveness.
- Community Connectivity: Strengthening peer-to-peer support networks among affected families.
Adrabetadex and Its Potential Impact
Adrabetadex is being developed as a pioneering treatment for I-NPC, a rare and fatal pediatric neurodegenerative disorder caused by impaired intracellular cholesterol trafficking. If approved, it would be the first treatment designed to directly address the intracellular cholesterol accumulation that drives the disease. The FDA has accepted Beren's New Drug Application for adrabetadex under Priority Review.
Executive Insight
Jason Camm, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Beren Therapeutics, emphasized the importance of this funding in accelerating the company’s efforts to bring adrabetadex to market and support affected families. "The financing will help us ensure that families dealing with I-NPC have access to the resources and treatments they need," Camm stated.
Legal and Advisory Support
Morgan Stanley acted as the sole structuring agent for the transactions. Legal advisory roles were filled by Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati for Beren and Latham & Watkins for Hercules Capital.
With this substantial financial backing, Beren Therapeutics is well-positioned to advance its mission of providing transformative medicines for patients, addressing significant unmet needs in the medical community.
