Banaraswala Raises $2 Million in Seed Round

Banaraswala, a Delhi-based company specializing in traditional Banarasi cuisine, has successfully raised $2 million in a seed funding round led by Prax Impex. The company, founded by Vibhanshu Mishra, aims to bring the authentic flavors of Banaras to a broader audience.

Expansion Plans

With fresh capital in hand, Banaraswala plans to expand its footprint beyond its current three outlets in Delhi. The company is set to open new locations in Banswara, Rajasthan; Sarangpur, Gujarat; and Farrukhabad and Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh by the end of November. The funds will also facilitate the development of the company's menu and support its entry into the quick-service restaurant (QSR) segment.

Strategic Use of Funds

The funding will be instrumental in supporting Banaraswala's ambitious expansion strategy. The company intends to operate 50 outlets across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and other Tier 2 markets by March 2027. This growth will be achieved through a mix of company-owned and franchise outlets. Additionally, the company plans to enhance its existing operations and explore the realm of Banarasi molecular cuisine.

Founder Insights

Vibhanshu Mishra, Founder and CEO of Banaraswala, expressed a renewed sense of purpose with this round of funding. "Scaling Banaraswala is, at the same time, an effort to expand our presence and build trust in the initial ethos of the brand," Mishra stated. "The challenges faced by us have brought valuable lessons. This phase is a comeback, which has a renewed sense of purpose with a clear intent on moving ahead."

Conclusion

Banaraswala's recent funding round marks a significant step in its journey to popularize Banarasi cuisine across India. With the backing of Prax Impex, the company is well-positioned to execute its expansion plans and innovate within the culinary space.
