Afresh Technologies Raises $34 Million to Boost AI Platform
Afresh Technologies, a company known for its all-encompassing platform that unifies fresh replenishment, production planning, inventory management, and DC forecasting, has announced a $34 million funding round. This investment is aimed at enhancing their AI-driven solutions designed to optimize decision-making within the grocery supply chain.
Investment Details
The funding round, dated April 21, 2026, is co-led by Just Climate and High Sage Ventures. The specifics of other participating investors have not been disclosed. This capital injection reflects growing interest in technologies that can address the complexities of managing perishable inventory in a grocery market valued at about $10 trillion globally.
Platform Expansion and Impact
Afresh Technologies' platform, initially focused on fresh food categories, now extends across the entire grocery enterprise, including center store, frozen, and general merchandise. It provides real-time intelligence across various aspects of grocery operations, such as store operations, merchandising, and supply chain workflows. Currently, the platform is operational in over 12,500 departments across 40 U.S. states, partnering with major grocery retailers like Albertsons Companies, Meijer, and Wakefern Food Corporation.
The effectiveness of Afresh’s technology is evident in its ability to significantly reduce food waste by up to 25 percent, boost sales by 3 percent, and enhance inventory turns by 7 percent. The technology has already prevented over 200 million pounds of food waste, underscoring its dual role in retail efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Use of Funds
The newly raised funds will be allocated to expanding the deployment of Afresh's platform across existing retail partners and further developing its next-generation AI capabilities. This expansion is set to improve decision-making processes across the food supply chain, addressing both operational and sustainability challenges.
Leadership and Vision
Afresh Technologies was co-founded by Nathan Fenner, with Matt Schwartz serving as the CEO. Schwartz commented on the company's progress, stating: "We’ve spent nearly a decade building AI to solve the complexity of grocery, and we’re now seeing that approach scale across the industry."
Industry Context
As grocery retailers increasingly transition from pilot programs to full-scale AI implementations, Afresh Technologies is positioned to support this shift with its robust platform. With more than 60 percent of its lifetime order volume occurring in the last year and a 70 percent year-over-year revenue growth in 2025, the company is demonstrating its capacity to deliver tangible benefits to the grocery industry while contributing to broader sustainability goals.
