Stark's €500 Million Funding Boost

Stark, a Berlin-based defence-tech company specializing in software-driven unmanned systems, has successfully raised €500 million in its latest funding round. The company, which focuses on enhancing European security and sovereignty, announced that the investment was led by Sequoia Capital. Other notable investors participating in the round include Founders Fund, the NATO Innovation Fund, Project A, Air Street Capital, 201 Ventures, Advent, and Döpfner Capital.

Company Background

Founded in 2024, Stark has quickly established itself as a significant player in the European defence sector. The company is led by Uwe Horstmann, who serves as the Chief Executive Officer, alongside Co-Founder Johannes Schaback. Stark aims to bolster Europe's defence capabilities through the development and deployment of advanced unmanned systems.

Strategic Use of Funds

Stark plans to allocate more than 80% of the newly acquired funds towards research and development (R&D) and manufacturing. This includes the establishment of new electronic warfare research facilities and the scaling of production to thousands of systems per month. The investment will significantly enhance Stark's capacity to innovate and meet the growing demand for defence technology across Europe.

CEO Uwe Horstmann emphasized the importance of scaling innovation within Europe, stating: "The challenge facing Europe is no longer whether we can innovate, it's whether we can scale. This financing is a €500m commitment to Europe’s defence industrial base."

Expansion and Recent Developments

In recent months, Stark has made significant strides in expanding its operations and capabilities. The company secured a substantial €268 million contract with the German armed forces for its kamikaze drones. Additionally, Stark has expanded its presence into the UK and Sweden, acquired the Berlin-based autonomous navigation software startup Pleno, and launched new maritime drone systems.

By leveraging this substantial funding, Stark is poised to further its mission of strengthening European security through cutting-edge defence technology.
