Southern Launch Raises $25 Million in Series A Funding

Southern Launch, a South Australian startup specializing in space exploration services, has announced a successful $25 million Series A funding round. The company, known for its end-to-end launch services operating from the Southern Hemisphere, received significant backing to enhance its capabilities further.

Investors and Funding Details

The funding round was led by Brindabella and Company, a specialist defence-industry merchant bank. Other notable investors include the federal government’s National Reconstruction Fund, which contributed $10 million, as well as former Macquarie Group executives Nicholas Moore and Alex Harvey, and Coupland Asset Management.

Company Operations and Services

Southern Launch operates two key spaceports in South Australia: the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex and the Koonibba Test Range. These facilities support both orbital and suborbital launches and have been pivotal in advancing space mission capabilities from the Southern Hemisphere. Notably, Southern Launch facilitated the world's first commercial spacecraft re-entry at the Koonibba Test Range in early 2025.

Use of Funds

The newly raised capital will be directed towards increasing the company’s workforce and accelerating the development of its launch, re-entry, and range services. This expansion is expected to enhance Southern Launch's operational capabilities and support its growing list of commercial space missions.

Strategic Importance

Located in Koonibba, South Australia, Southern Launch is strategically positioned to leverage its geographical advantage for space missions. The funding is set to bolster its infrastructure, enabling the company to handle a higher volume of launches and re-entries, thus solidifying its role in the global space industry.

Southern Launch continues to make strides in the space exploration sector, and with this substantial financial backing, the company is well-positioned to expand its operations and service offerings in the near future.
