Oceanloop Raises €38.5 Million for Aquaculture Expansion

Oceanloop, a company based in Munich, Germany, has successfully raised €38.5 million in a recent funding round. Specializing in software-driven, land-based marine ecosystems, Oceanloop aims to provide premium seafood with consistent quality while reducing the environmental impact on the oceans.

Investment and Growth Plans

The funding round was led by Hatch Blue's Blue Revolution Fund and Stolt Ventures. These strategic investments will be directed towards scaling up Oceanloop's aquaculture technology, particularly focusing on the production of Giant Grouper in Europe. This approach aims to enhance the company's ability to meet the growing demand for reliable and high-quality seafood.

Expansion of Aquaculture Technology

Oceanloop, founded by Fabian Riedel, plans to use the new capital to expand its technological infrastructure and increase its production capabilities. The company is committed to developing a global platform for land-based aquaculture, which will allow it to maintain full control over seafood quality and production processes.

"This financing marks the beginning of Oceanloop’s industrial scale-up," said Riedel. "With the support of Hatch Blue, Stolt Ventures, and the European Investment Bank, we are well-positioned to transform our proven technology into a leading international aquaculture platform."

Strategic Use of Funds

The funds will primarily be used to enhance Oceanloop’s recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), which are essential for maintaining the controlled environments necessary for sustainable seafood production. Additionally, the company has secured a €32 million venture-debt facility from the European Investment Bank to further support its expansion efforts.

Oceanloop's innovative approach to aquaculture not only aims to meet the rising demand for seafood but also seeks to alleviate pressure on natural marine ecosystems, making it a significant player in the sustainable food production sector.
